About.
During the summer of 1985 Andrew Base embarked on a career in the Construction Industry. Working for a small building company his initial interest in Quantity Surveying soon shifted to the work of the in-house Architect. As the newly appointed Architectural Design Assistant, he began planning a career in architecture.
Following a five year period studying Building Technology/Sciences and Practice Management at Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology he qualified as a Building Technician in the summer of 1990, and the same year began studying for a degree in architecture at Oxford Brookes School of Architecture. This was duly followed by a two year period of vocational based training, returning to study for a diploma at Greenwich University, and finally graduating in the summer of 1997.
Following a short period working for an architectural practice in Chelsea, London, he returned to Gloucestershire in 1998 and has since worked in various capacities both for local practices, and as a sole practitioner.
Since College, his particular interest in Architecture has centred on the creation of residential spaces. He is particularly interested in the interface between external and internal spaces, and the definition of such; the origins of our commonly held notions of spaces, and the methods by which spaces are both inhabited and acquired.
You will also note, he has a keen interest in other visual arts such as photography, painting and drawing; a small sample of which can be found by following the links from these pages.
